BRITISH AIRSHIP SCHEME.
London, July 27.
The revised airship scheme which the Government has adopted in principle provides for the preliminary construction at Bedford, of ona five-million cubic feet airship
as - long as the Mauretania. The construction will be made by a company with six hundred thousand pounds capital of which the Government will provide four hundred thousand. A second similar loan will be conditional on the airship journeying to India In one hundred hours. A weekly service to India for three months will entitle the company to such a loan annually. A three years' Government subsidy of one quarter of a million pounds will be paid on the establishment of a bi-weekly service in which six ships. will be engaged,
The construction of the first airship capable of carrying one hundred and Afty passengers and ten tons of mails, and travelling at eighty miles an hour will occupy one year and a half. It is hoped to do the journey to India in seventy-four hours and the fare will be about £10 to £80 sterling. The airship is to be capable of non-stop journeys of 2,500 miles. The Government has reserved certain accommodation and is entpowered to take over the whole fleet in case of military necessity. The capital of the Company will eventually be increased to three millions sterling..

In the Dundec-Criqui fight for the world's featherweight cham- pionship each weighed Sst. 12lbs. Criqui was, out-classed, Dundee winning every round.
The crowd of fifty thousand were constantly in uproar, a largo part cheering the Frenchman, but Dundee's jumping-jack methods completely befuddled Criqui who received severe punishment. In the first round Dundee floored Criqui with a right to the jaw for a count of nine.. He twice floored the Frenchman in the second- round. Criqui fought gamely but poorly and was wild through- out, landing only a few good blows,
EMPIRE DEVELOPMENT.
London, July 27.
In the House of Commons debate on the Board of Trade estimates Sir A. Mond urged a more vigorous Empire development policy. He stressed the importance of the China market especially for the cotton trade and urged, the Government to use its influence to secure more settled conditions in China.
Sir Philip Lloyd-Greame, in the course of his reply, said that the Secretary of State was working on Crown. Colony development schemes and the Government firmly intended helping sound schemes.
IMPERIAL ECONOMIC CONFERENCE.
London, July 27.
The Daily Telegraph in a leader criticises the Government for failing to provide special representation for Crown Colonies at the Imperial Economic Conference, and suggests the direct represen- tation of groups of colonies. It urges the Government to recon- sider the matter and to rectify the serious mistake in Imperial policy.
