LINER IN COLLISON.
Excitement Among 1.000 Emigrants.
A serious collision occurred, it the River Clyde late one night Pacifio liner Metagama and the last month when the Canadian cargo steamer Baron Vernon were damaged. No lives were lost and no one was injured
The Metagama with over one" thousand passengers on board, put back to Glasgow but the cargo vessel had to be grounded noar Dumbarton, where she was lying on a mud bank with har stern high in the air. The Canadian. lider was outward bound, and the cargo steamer was coming up river from Spain to Glasgow. The port bore of the Baron Vernon were stove in and holed below the water-line.
There were many miraculous oscanes, notably on the cargo steamer, The majority of the Metigama's passengers were be low, and naturally there was great excitement, but no semblan ce of a panic. The liner AS swung round and taken back to Glargon. Later a diver was in- specting the bull and if the Metegema had not been able to proceed a proportion of the emigrants were to be transferred to the Montrose which had left Liverpool for Belfast, and could be diverted to the Clyde
