Relighting of two more blaat furnaces on Tees-side has in- creased the number in operation on the North-East coast to 30.
DVED YARN. There is tendency for the export of dyed yarn to China to decrease gradually. This may be
the chiefly due to
amazing development of the dyeing in- dustry in China, but the revised import duty of China may be another reason. The duty on dyed yarn stands at 5 percent. ad valorem, but a speciño duty is levied on gray yarn, and there is a difference in the amount of duty of Y12 per bale (3 piculs). For this reason, it is more profitable to dye yarn in China, taking grey yarn from Japan. The cheap Isboor in Chian may be another cause, while it may be convenient to dye în China with ́the full knowledge of the taste there of the colour of the dyed yarn. Even in Shanghai and neighbour- hood, there are seven large dya. factories including the Hanchang |Company, Tak-Hsing Company
and others.

MANILA MARKETS. Messrs. Warner, Barnes & Co.o Ltd.. Manila, in their lates circular to hand, state: Tod firmness in bemp reported in ou last circular was fully maintaine, during the early part of the fort night under review. The sur market has ruled quies, with a alightly easier tendency in sym- patby with the recent smert decline in the U.S. sugar market. There is no pressure to sell, how- ever, the small balance of centri- fngal and muscovado sugars wh th
still available for purchase. The copra market has aled dull but prices ste un- changed.-The chal market is steady. The Japanese market is. very firm at prices which preclude importation into the P. 1.-The rice market has an upward ten- dency owing to rather more de mand from the provinces. and supplies of native grain getting scarce. The flour market is dull with ample stocks to cover all requirements.
