A samples exhibition will be held in Uyena Park in the early. page of October. This is the first exhibition of the kind to be held lin Japan.

A somewhat unusual feature of the motor-ear industry has just been seen in Japan, consisting of an exhibition of second-hand cars. Apostently it was successful in fulfilling its purpose, for an MRIS as 30 of the cars were disposed of, some far less than 1,000 yen.

August state: There has been no appreciable amount of business doing throughout the week. but the demand for al! sound investment stocks con- tinues with very few shares changing hands.-Hongkong & Shanghai Banks-No sales bave been recorded locally, and buyers offering $580 fail to induce sales. Insurances-Yanglezes bave risen to baying quotation of $221, and possibly more would be paid. Unions are wanted at | HK$200 and Hongkong Firea at HK 385.-Docks and En- gineering. Shanghaisg after sales at 58 have further buyers at the price. New Engineerings are inquired for at 74 for the "ordinary" and 4.85 for the "preference."—Ewo Mills — After sales at 1340 and 13 45 have dropped to 13, at which price shares have changed hands.
