The capsiderable increase in the comaumption of coal, result- ing in great decrease of stocks in the coal depots has atrengthened the tone of the coal, market, aach prices have advanced - by about Y1 04 an average, says the Japan Chronicle.

According to the investigations made by the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce, the wholesale prices of commodities in Tokyo during May showed a decline of 2 per cent, on an average (98 paints in ratio).. Of 32 commodities, sugar, tea, cotton raro, babutae, rape-seed. rape-seed cake, and matting for tatami advanced in. wholesale price, and way. barley, wheat, rye, red beads, wheat flour. potatoes, coal, fire-wood, charcoal, and haashi declined, while bleached cotton- clotb, matches, tabla salt, eggs and others remained unchanged. On the other hand, the retail prices ‹ f commodities in Kobe on June 15th, showed an advance by 1.5 per cent, on an average, as com- pared with the corresponding period of last month. according to the investigations made by the Kobe Chamber of Commerce. Out of 33 s'ania commodities; 15 sdvanced, 10 declined in price. while 7 remained unchanged. Rice, tea, barley, beaf, pork, salt ptams, pickled radish, carton and masbrooms advanced in price by 10 per cent. while red beans. OTES,. jamoked bosito, sugar, salted sal- mone, mousseline and bausbi dropped 10 per cent or more.
