As a result of a contract which the Emergency Fleet Corporation of the United States Shipping Board entered into" "with the Merebant Shipbuilding Corpora- tion of Bristol (Pa) daring the [war, a' rather unusual situation has now arises in America. This contract, which was for the con- struction of 40 ships, contained a clause providing that, in case the vessels should cost less than the estimate, one-third of the saving was to go to the Merchant Ship- building Corporation, one-third to the Government, and the remainder was to be distributed among the employees of the yurt as a reward for their part in effecting the economy, The workmen concerned are claiming ibat a saving of $20,000,000+ was made on the construction of those ships, and that they are entitled to G.$5,920,000 in mecor- dance with the contract.
