CHINESE CURRENCY. The Chinese Union of Chambers of Commerce has forwarded to the Ministry of Finsnos a petition suggesting the adoption of silver dollars as a basis of currency.

The ancoal general meeting of the shareholders of the Chinese Engineering & Mining Co, Ltd. was held in London on Decem- ber 12, when the "directors* report and statement of accounts for the year ended Jane 30,1921. were submitted. The nat resalt of the year's transactions shows a balance to the credis of Profit! and Loss Account of £513,453. Of this, the following appropria tions. among others, wer approved Interim dividend of 10 per cent, paid May 13, absorb- ing £140,000.
