December, stato —Business has been more or less at a stand- still throughout the week just concluded, partly because Brokers were busy making final arrange- ments for the Settlement which is to take place on 22nd, instant, While the highest prices at which the more speculative shares were purchased for this month show no great loss on ra-aala at present quotations, and while the dimen sions of the settlement are very much less than is usual for the last clearance of the year, fears have been expressed in aoxia quarters that there may be some difficulty in settling.-Debentures. The Municipal Council advertises that provisional receipts for the Dollar Loan of last Spring may now be extbanged for bearer debentures, and, that the in- terest coupon No. 1. attached, due 31/12/2, must be lodged at the Investment Bank offices | for two clear days before payment fis required.-Chinese Engineering & Mining Ca-The accounts for the year ended 30th. June last show a credit balance to Prost and Lass accopat of £313,463, and this the Directors recommended at the meeting beld in London on the 12th. instant, should be deali with as follows: Pay a final dividend of 12 per cent, which, with the interim dividend of 10 per cent, absorbs |2380,000: Expenses in connec
