MANCHURIAN SILK FOR JAPAN. Preparations have now been completed for the foundation of a silk company which will weare pongee from Manchurian silk. Shares bave already been taken up by the Okura-zumi of Tokyo (which is largely interested in Manchurian development) and other big capitalists. The present company, called the Oriental Silk Cloth Company, will do business under Sino-Japanese joint. management with a capital of ¥10,000,000, of which $4,000,000 has been apportioned to the Chinese interested. Mesary. Suzuki Sobei and Mori Sei, members of the Foundation Committee, proceeded to Toya- ma Prefecture on the 19th ult, to survey the possible sites for factories, while the executive staff will soon start for Manchuria în company with the Chief of the Toyams Prefectural Dyeing and Weaving Institure, with the objects of parchasing materials and arranging tog future supplice. In response to the loud clamour among the silk interests for B drastic control of the actual ost- put of raw silk. the Depart- ment of Agriculture and Commerca is drawing up estimates and registering sources of supply in order to be- gin work from the next financiai year.
