MANILA MARKETS, Messrs. Warner, Barnes & Co. Ltd, Manila, in their latest circular to band, state: There has been a good demand for all parcala of Hemp arriving to market during the past fortnight, and prices have advanced sharply in sympathy with the improved market in America-The Sugar market in Iloilo bas ruled quiet, but steady during the past for- night, and a few small transactions have taken place at our quot- ations. The balance of available unsold stocks of muscovados are becoming very reduced, and are firmly held. The 1921 Iloilo sugar crop has been provisionally stimated at 175,000 tons cen- trifugals, and 25,000 tons mus covado sugar, or say a total of 200,000 tons. It should be noted, however, that this estimate of the crop is based on the area planted. but das to the financial crisis, cultivation of part of this area has not been maintained, and as a result of this, the above estimate will very likely have to be re- duced later on by possibly 15/20 The estimated decrease in production of muscovado sugar is very marked being near- ly 200% less than what was pro- duced during 1920:21. The Copra marbet bas rated steady during the fortnight without any material change in prices. At the close there is a better demand for ex port, and transactions were made at 25 cts. per pical higber. Arrivals at Manils during the fortnight were 176.000 picals.- The Coal market is steady at unchanged prices. It is reported that the Australian Government has imposed a tax of 61 per ton on all coal exports. The Japan market is firm with rising tandency. Arrivals during the fortnight were 4,600 tons from Borneo and Japan, for commerci- al purposes. During the past fortnight the kice market has ruled weak, due to the poor comand, but at the close there is a little better tope.-The Flour market is quiet and demand dull. dae probably to heavy stocks of cheaper brands held, locally. Prices remain steady but the general opinion is that same are likely to decline considerably, before long.
