PRESENTATION TO RESCUE

A silver salver was presented recently at Hull, on behalf of the British Government, to Captain William Newton, of the steamer Trentino, for the rescue of the schooner Pioneer, off Jaffa. It was stated that two hours before the rescue a German steamer was asked to help, but she signalled "Too dangerous" and went on her way. The Pioneer which was flying the British Ensign, was afterwards totally wrecked on the rocks,
