WOOLLEN YARN IMPORTS. In pursuanoS of the offers frequently received from Germmy", England, France, etc, for the exportation of woollen varn to Japan at low figures, Japanese wool-weaving companies and im-- parting firms have been simultane- ouslypurchasing. There is a report that negotiations have been con cluded for about 3,500000 lbs, for April to December delivery. The principalbuyers are the Kawasaki Shoten, Yoshikawa Shoten, Mit- soi Bussan Kxiaba, Shibakawa Shoten, Iwai Shotan ete. Of the 3,500,000 lb... 20 per cent, have already been imported and con- sumed by textile companies. Classifying the yarns contracted for mousseline garn accounts for 60 per cent, of the total, and knitted yarn and miscellaneous yarn 20 per cent, each.

THE RISE IN COTTON. In the Osaks Cotton Yarn Er- Ichange at the start of the month all deliveries jumped up by T13.80 to Y19.50. The Immediate reasons for this advance are a |report of an advance by Y420 in American cotton and a very bad report on this year's crop by the American Agricultural Bureau. The intense heat towards the latter part of the summer. this year, which has been an obstacia in the way of the mills manufac- turing yarn and the improvement of the relation between demand and supply: due to the decrease to only 21,000 bales in the Han- chin district, are thought to be more well-founded elements for the advance. Some of the mills are even said to be unable to set more spindles in motion, notwith- standing the release for work of a quarter of the 40 per cent. of idle spindles, which is due in the middle of September, unless they can make up for the shortage of bands now deeply felt. Olbere are alleged to be ning their idle spindles in the manufacture of Imiddle and finer counts.
