LORD KITCHENER'S FATE.
The Secret Information
Rumour Revived. Interest in the lows of HMS Hampshire with Lord Kitcher
and his staff on board, in June 1916, is revived by questions usk- el in Parlament.
The first ress of the great treged was quickly followed by ruma that the Hampshire was sunk by the Germans whoh obtained secret information of Lord Kitel.ener's contemplated Voyage Ri
An official icquiry was held and the conclusion come to wa that the loss of the Hampshire was due to the vessel striking a mine of the Orkneys. Despite this finding the old rumours have beer Iported from time to time.
Sir Richard Conper asked th Secretary for Wer if he bad an official information as to the allez d divulgence be an offic on Lord Kitchener's staff, vir wen down on the Hampshire, o secret information respecting th journey of this vessel to Russis A CAREFUL ANSWER. Sir L. Worthington-Evans: 1 have no official information o' the character suggested, and the circumstances connected with the loss of the Hampshire do not re- flect in any way on any member of the late Lord Kitchener's staff
Sir R. Cooper: Is it not a fac that confidential information ba: heen sent to the right bon, gen H. tleman's department by Majesty's Commissioner, whi went to Berlin shortly after th war?
Sir L. Worthington-Evans. My answer, is a careful answer to thei question.
Admiral Bir R. Hall; Is it not a fact that the selection of the Hampshire was only made at the last minute and that her route was not finally fixed until the forenoon of the day she asiled?
Sir. L. Worthington-Evans: I believe that is so.
