FUTURE OF TSINGTAO.

· BRITISH CHAMBERS*

SUGGESTIONS.

The following memorandum, on the future of Tsingtao, which was drawn up by the British Chamber. 5f Commerco in that port and with the general principles of, which the Associated British Chambers of Commerce in China are agreement, was recantly forward- ed to H. M. Minister by the As- suciation.

Memorandum.

The Tsingtao question has now entered on a phase when some kind of salution must soon be ar rived At. The Chinese must choose between negotiating diretty by with Japan or submitting the whole question to the Laagua of] Nations. In the former event the interests of foreign Powers would robably be entirely ignored, but in the latter event the League of Nations would probably take intoj consideration the vested interests.
