At St. Joha's Nev. C. B., Shann conducted the service. His Lard ship was keenly listened to, He took his text from John 10, 16, and said: "The figure of the shepherd and his sheep is prominent in Holy Scripture. The 23rd Psalm, open- ng. The Lord is my Shepherd," and many passages in the Pro phets, recur to us at once. Our Lord constantly used it. Feed my sheep" is the greatest com- mandment ta the foremost Apostle. He needed the ardent impetuosity of Simon Peter, the gentle faithfulness of John. the devoted enthusiasm of Paul and the intense loyalty of Thomas. He needs your persona lity and mine. He requires men 5f all times. Christianity is not a completed science. It is not true to say that what is to be known of God is all revealed. Much was re- vealed to the Apostles and the fathers of the Church, to the monks and friars. to the reformers and poets, and to the inventors and scientists. But there is much yet to he revealed. As Bishop Westrott said, it needs men of all tices and all races to reres! the mind of God Art He conserves national characteristics. He did not come to destroy but to fulfill, and though the different nations of the world are made of one blood they all have their distinctive characteristics, In St. John's vision he sees the nations bring- ing the honour and glory of their nationality into the sight of God. ALLIES AND GERMANY.

الله

Paris, April 29. · M. Millerand yesterday explained to the Chamber of epaties his success with Lloyd George at San Remo Having dealt with the important features of the Treaty, he was applauded when he added "I-do not think I am too much of an optimist when I tell you that as the result of our deliberations we are now entering upon a positive eriad of execution of the Versailles Treaty. Further- nore this declaration brings forth the fact which is not ts least merit that the Entente among the Allies, among all the Allies, is stronger, closer, and more active than erex."

M. Millerand laid special stress upon the fact that the Allied conferences have deemed it of 'the ut- most importance to present an united front to Germany. The Chamber gave the Premier an ovation when he said "At the conference certain ideas and certain beliefs were brought to light to which I have replied and will now again reply in a word. It appears that certain minds bad become untasy over the underlying thoughts which might be the actuating motives of the French people, Parliament and Government. I have answered that the French people, Parliament and Government would be unanimous in branding not only as a crime hot as nonsense and dream of a new annexation of derman territory." Interviewed by the "Herald,” M. Millerand remarked that none of the Allies can now adopt an isolated policy. “Italy, Belgium and Japan have sub- scribed to the agreement reached between Lloyd George and myself and I do not anticipate for one minute any occasion arising on which there is ilkely to be any diser- gence of views. Germany will realise this also and the knowledge should prove a strong moral force strenthen- ing the German Government against elements which tend to arouse internal dižculties.--Havas.

GERMANY'S WEAPONS,

Berlin, April 30.

The newspapers report the discovery at Ruegen of further arms comprising one hundred and twenty marbine-gung, one thousand carbines and a quantity of material. The commander of the local Landschuetz has been arrested.

Replying to the German note the Reparations Com- mission point out that, although three months have passed since the Peace Treaty came into force, Germany has not delivered a single vessel. The Commission declines to consider any further proposal until a satis ́factory quantity of tonnage has actually been surrender- ed and recalls that charter money is payable while the ships are not delivered. The German Government has replied that the preparations for surrenders have ex- countered the greatest difficulties but a large number of ships are ready to sail and it hopes to effect delivery within a few days. It adds the goodwill is not lacking. on Germany's part but the German nation demanda not to be completely ruined economically by deprivation of it last ships,

THE RUHR.

Paris. Apill 29.

In the Chamber M. Millerand declared that the Frankfurt and Darmstadt territories will be evacuated as soon as the Allies have ascertained that the excess Ger- man forces in the neutral zone have been withdrawn. He said the whole of Germany's armed forces there must be reduced to ten thousand by 10th June, and by 10th July all the troops must be withdrawn and replaced by ten thousand police. He re-affirmed it was a stupid crime to believe that France desired to annex any German terri- tory: farthermore at the end of the San Remo Coster- ence the Allies were more united than ever.

"DOWN BUT NOT OUT." :

Londen. April 30.

Speaking at the Scottish banquet in London Field Marshal Sir William Robertson, replying to the toast of the Imperial Forces, said their successes in the war were primarily due to the solidity of the Empire. Germany was down but not out and the nations of the Empire would be well advised to seriously consider whether necessary economies in expenditore could not be efected in other directions with less risk than by unduly reducing the depleted strength of the Imperial Forces upon whom the welfare of the Empire depends.

GERMAN WAR STRENGTH.

Berlin, May 1.

The Ministry of Defence in a statement says regard- ing German war stores there are 478 heavy and 430 light guns presently at Koenigsberg. The Entente has been offered 12,000 light and 2.000 heavy guns. 3,000 mine throwers, 21,000 machine guns, 377,000 rifles, 15,500,000 rounds of artillery ammunition, 28,000,000 cartridges, ali. available aircraft, namely, 400 neroplanes. The strength of the army on April 1st. was 11,500 officers, and 220,000 men. Naval conditions have been filmed and. the Entente do not complain with regard to it.

THE COMING CONFERENCE.

Berlin, April 29,

The Allied invitation to send an envoy to the meet- ing of the Supreme Council at Spa has been presented to. von Mueller by the Italian Charge' d'Affaires.
