HONGKONG, FRIDAY, JANUARY 9, 1920.

DEVELOPMENT NOT DOMINATION.

TAE

There must have been quite a deal of local interest aroused by the telegram recently received which indicated that in connection with the antisipated trade boom this year great schemes are being prepared by British traders to give Britain "domination" in the world's markets. Lor us at once say that we do not like the word Reuter used and geoted above. We don't want to see anyone out for domination and the use of the word in the present connection gives an early false aspect to things. What traders ae out for and what we hope to them achieve, is a fair and proportionate share of the world's trade. Britain has a big hold to keep and there is legitimate room for her trade expansion, and it is encouraging to learn that a more is being taken along the lines of propaganda to secure that expansion. Judging from all reasonable indirations the present year is going to witness a boom in trade and it should rightly witness also a boom in the "push" and enterprise of British

commercial men.
