WATCHED SUICIDE DROWN: In returning a verdict at Aldershot, of "Suicide during temporary insanity demobilised soldier named Stoon, who plunged through the ice into the Basingstoke Canal the Coroner observed with regard to eight men who had stood looking on: "I can't help thinking that in shallow water of only three fact one of these men should have attempted a rescue, even though the law imposes no legal fe sponsibility on any person to risk his life at rescue."

Fishing in the Wash was recently being adversely affected by the depredations of seals, which, according to the annual report of the Inspector of Eastern Sea Fisheries are in greater number than ever before.
