TRANSATLANTIC FLYING. According to the German Wireless a new International Aerial Traffic Company is being planned in Berlin. Aerial com- munication between Germany and neutral States, and with other enemy States, even with America, is to be carried on by this company. It is hoped to reduce the journey between Europe and America to forty- eight hours. For this purpose a reconstructed and altered type of the Hungarian rigid steel airship. with a carrying capacity of about forty-five tons and with increased firmness, speed, and running security is to be used. This new construction consists of a systema of curved steel pipes, which will give the airship rest firmness. TURK CAPITAL Q.H.Q. OF PEACE. A resolution proposing Con stantinople as the headquarters of the League of Nations will be moved by Major David Davies, M.P., one of the British delegates at the forthcoming International Conference at Brussels. Major David Davies said that in his opin- ion the essentials of this inter- national capital" are:-Good geo- graphical and strategic situation, historical associations, religious traditions, ability to exert equal influence on Eastern and Western civilisations. "The fate of Con- stantinople hangs in the balance." he added. "No nation is anxiqüs to ines the responsibility of its ownership. It must not remain with the Turk. 17.000, INFLUENZA DEATHS. Dr.J.C. Dunlop, Superintendent of Statistics, in a supplement to: the Reports of the Registrer General for Scotland. issued recently states that the total number of deaths ascribed to in£uenza during the epidemic in Scotland. in the latter part of last year and the early part of this year. was 17.575. this number including not only those deaths of which influenza the sole named cause. but

also those deaths of which influenza was one of two or more named causes, the latter being by far the more numerous. The death rell from the recenti epidemic was greatly in excess of all previous epidemics. The greatest
influenza mortality hitherto was in 1900. when, how- ever, it mounted only to 2,826. Provisional figures (not yet finally revised) for May and June show that influenza deaths in these months numbered 140 and 55, and from them it may be accepted. says Dr. Dunlop, that the end of April may safely be used as an arbitrary date of the end of the epidemic.
