NEW SCOTTISH GOLF COURSE.

What should be of exceptional

interget to golfers in general, and to the keen golfer in particular, is the announcement that the 1st of May was fixed for the opening of the Gleneagles golf courses.

These courses are situated in the Strathearn district of Perth- shire, about 15 miles south of Perth, and within a short distance of Gleneagles Station on the main line of the Caledonia Railway.

There are two courses, one of 18 holes extending to 6,537 yards in!! length and the other of nine holes extending to 2,592 yards, and both have been laid out by James Braid in association with Captain, Cecil Hutchison of amateur fame!

The courses have been played over by Braid, Vardon. Taylor' and Herd, ar these and other golfing experts have described them as being amongst the finest of their kind. Vardon has writ- ten "The course as it stands now is as fine a golf course as I have ever seen in any country."; and opinions of a like character have been expressed by Taylor) and Herd.

It has further been said of! the Gleneagles golf courses. that "they provide opportunities for playing every variety of stroke in the game, that the holes in- dividually

possess distinctive

features which enable a stranger. to carry away a vivid impression of each, that every hole differs from its neighbour, and that all, are excellent.”

A prominent golfer, who has on several occasions played over these picturesquely situated! courses, has expressed the firm belief that one has only to sample such of the quaintly but aptly named holes as "Silver Tassie." Het Girdle,Blink Bonnie," Heich o' Fash," and "Hinay Mune "to mention only a few-- to realise that many of them are bound to become famous.
