Newspapers regard the action of Hungary as a direct challenge to the Associated Powers and demand frm and sharp action in order to establish control of the situation. THE NEW BRITISH ARMY.
London, March 23.
In the House of Colamons, Mr. Churchill, replying to Opposition criticisms of the Military Service Bill said that unless men re-enlisted for two years and upwards it world be impossible to relieve the territorial and other troops in India and elsewhere who ought to have effective relief. (Cheers). The Government must do everything to recreate the voluntary army at the earliest possible. He denied that an army di 900,000 men, including tea divisions on the Rhine and foar in Great Britain, was excessive. He pointed out the situation which recently developed in Egypt and which very farreaching danger and necessitated an appeal to the men collected at ports for demobilisation to return and help their comrades from murder. "The whole country is in a state of practical insurrection." We were going to demand a reduction of the German army to 100,000 and no Boy Secats, bus the Germans were not likely to agree if we unduly reduced strength. The present state of Europe was one of increasing gravity and perplexity and we must not throw away the results gained by the sacrifices of millions of oar me during the past four years.
