Mr. Hedley, a member of the firm of Hedley and Thompson, soliciters, of Sunderland, was joint liquidator of the company, and most of the neotiations for the sale were carried out by Mr. Hedley. Mr. Hedley was appro- ached by a firm of shipbrokers called J. M. Fergusson and Cb, of Liverpool, who said they had a purchaser, but they did not discloss his name at once, but who afterwards turned out to be the defendant, Mr. Fawke. The whole matters in question were contained in letters which he would have to take his lordship through in detail.
