War and Marine Insurance
Problems.
The dec sion of Mr. Justics Bailache in the case of the steamer Sherwood is interesting as illustrating the increased marine perils due to the war. Such instances are common enough, but they seldom coms into Curt. The Sherwood collid ed with the wreck of the steamer Fulgens, which had been sunk in shallow water by a German, alo marine, and the point raised was whether the consequent damage to the Sherwood was caused by a marine or a war peril. The Judge tok his stand by the insurance law of proxims cause, and held that the Sherwood was damaged through a marine peril, a decision which appea's to have csused no surprise to under-
writers.
Pacific Mail's New Service. Resulting fr in the recent visit tthe Far East of Mr John H. Two passenger liners will be commissioned on the new serv ce. They will be the Clusa and the Sants. Cruz each of 15,500 tons displ cement, s'ightly larger than the Ecuadër and the other two liters now on the Pacific. Mail's regular rup Mr. W. W. Campbell, geners agent for the Pacific Mail ia Japan, is quoted by the Tokio paper as saying that these two. Hoers are handsome passenger
