Over 2,000,000 Horses in Great Britain.
Mr. Roberts stated recently, in reply to Mr.. Doncan Millar, that the census of borees is not yet complete for the United Kingdom, but a sommary of the returns for Great Britain has been made.. This shows that on April 21 about 76,000 horses of three years old And Oval него classified as "carriage and trap horses," about 39,000 as "riding horses and bartera over 15 hande," and about 371,000 were classified as "ponies and cobs under 15 hands." The younger horses were not classified in the same manner, so that those kept for cleasure pat poses cannot be distinguished, A few horses in the first two classes named and the majority of those in the third class were kept for trade or business par poses. The form of inquiry sent out did not provide for the saparation of horses used for rac

Carrying out the project con- esised eight years ago of giving Chins an effective medical, sar gical and hospital eyetem, the Rockefeller Foundation will soon start the construction of two large hospitals, one in Peking snd the other in Shanghai, for the work of the China Medical Board, a sub- sidiary of the Foundation. In ad- dition, the Fundation will enlarge the Union Medical College of Peking, which it has taken over. from the missionary agencies which founded it. It ia under stood that the bospital will ecstat least $1,000,000 each. It is probable that they will not be ready until the war is over. Within a few weeks Mr. Frank Bennett, a Baltimore contracter, will start for Chins to build the hospitale, the first of which will be constructed in Peking. It is to be modelled after the John Bepkins Hospital of Baltimore, and the plans were drawn ́after raggestions by Dr, Winford H. Smith, Superintendent of John Hopkins. A "Chicago firm of architects drew the plans.
