Advices have been receiveči that the Customs officials in the Argentine Larg

experienting difficulties in the application of the recent tax which imposes an additional surtax on all imported. articles upon which a duty of 10. per cent, or more is now lavied. Buch articles already are subject. to a surtax of 2 per cent, of the official valuation as prescribed in the customs tariff,—this valu- ation being used in nearly all Argentine calculations of duties, rather than the setual or declared: value of the goods.

| Up to the present time says. theN.C. “Daily News" of Jussia, no further news has been received - locally in regard to the shipments of tea which are held up in Landon. As we have previously pointed out these shipments were bought before thè "istus of the“ prohibition order, and akipped: under special, “guarantee? and permit. The delay on the part of the Government in arriving at`a decision in regard to these shipments is causing considerable embarrassment, and we under- stand that the China Assapistion is using its influence to get the matter decided one way or another without delay.

With- ont putting out a single product, sys the "Osaka Asahi," the Company has published a state- ment showing a loss of Y.27,000. Such being the case, the Govəzn- ment is compelled to pay out Y 107,010, viz, Y.27,000 re- presenting the loss, and Y.87,000, the promised 8 per cent. dividend.
