In the House of Commons, replying to proteste against the calling up of men who have passed the age of 41 before being summoned, Mr. Lloyd George pointed out that the pledge that such men should be sxempt was given under the then conditions, but conditions had since shanged. None could forecast the duration of the war, and exemp- tion would deprive the country of the equivalent of at least two Army Corps. The alternative would be to raise the military age to provide for man whom they did not want. The man-power question was most serious. He foreshadowed an early debate.
EXCHANGE OF INTERNED CIVILIANS,

In the House of Lords, Lord Newton said that an exchange of British sad German interped civiliane over the age of 45 baå boen stranged and will apply throughout the Empire. It will mean the handing over of 7.000 Germans for 700 British.

FOR SERVICES IN MESOPOTAMIA

The Gamelte announces that,, the U.MG. decoration has been conferred, for services in Mesopotamia, on Captain C.R. Wason, R.N. The Distinguished Service Order has been awarded to Lient. G. E Harden, who commanded the ganboat Comet daring the attack on Ctesiphon, during the withdrawal from Kat, with greaÍ coolness, and brought off the crew of the Firefly under very heavy fire, when the latter was grounded on December 1, 1915.
The Distinguished Service Order bas also been awarded to Sub-Lient, J. G. Wood, who was sent down the Tigris from Ummaltubal camp in a mctor-boat on the morning of December 1, 1915, with an important message, and displayed great bravery auder heavy fire, though wounded.

American Indians for Service,
Fifty Indians from Hudson Bay who have enlisted for overses service recently arrived at a military camp in Ontario. They took six weeks to do the journey. Two hundred miles were covered by canos.
