THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER
COMMERCIAL NEWS.
Manchester Goods. Mevara, James F. Hatton end. Co., Ltd., report (August 1) that there has not been any consider sble change in values for some weeks now, the daily fluctuations showing an average of something like sightpenny spot extton a Liverpool and c.13 apot oction at New York. We find that in Manchester there is undoubtedly s marked increase in inquiry from from the larger Eastern markets, bat the amount of business done, although much in advance of the past few weeks is not what it abould be. Prices for cloth are still at the highest, and it is thie fact that puts a curb on general buying.
Dairen Export Trade
with Europe.
In a normal year the export of Beans and Bran Oil to Earope from Dairen ooght to have, come almost to a close at this time of year. A demand for Manchurian Beans is still on the increase this year, but dearth of hold space coupled with the war rieke OD the European waters make it a matter of great difficulty to meet the pressing requirements. Re- cently the Danish motor ship Australien took away over 8,000 toos of Beans to Copenhagen, and another East Asiatic motor ship Columbia (from New York, with kerosene oil) is loading Beans at Dairen also consigned thereto.
