Japan's Lack of Steel.

All the shipbuilding yards of Japan now keenly feel the dearth of shipbuilding materials. Owing to the import of materials from England having been practically blocked by the European War, the home yards have had to depend for sook supplies upan either the Government Bleal Works, Edamitan, or the United States. Out of 3 000 tons of atoml required for two vessels, each of 7,600 tons.

building at the Mitsubishi Yarda Nagasaki, only 800 tons were supplied by England and the remainder by the steel works. The keele of these vessels were laid on June 7th last, and the work i making rapid headway.

MOT

The Oaaka Iron Works and the Ks- wasaki Dockyard Co. have ordered a large amount of steel from the steel works, which is unable to meet their requirements. In con- sequence, these companies havo already contracted with American steel works for the necessary sup- ply. The current price of Ameri can steel has risen remarkably sad is quoted at Y130 per ton for delivery at Kobe, showing a rise of Y30 over quotations a year ago.
