-Bombay's Trade. Bombay, 29th January. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Bombay Presidency irades Association last night, Mr. II. G. Clark, the titing master, refer ring to the effects of the war on Bombay trade, said: "We in undoubtedly Bombay fortunate in our position at the gate of India as the major portion of the expeditionary fo coa sent from this country all had to embark from this port, causing a flow of what I may call extra- ordinary business in many directions in which we are very materially interested." In this connection be referred to the interview he had with. General Olicers Commanding the Bom bay Brigade, regarding the in: convenience caused to members of the Association by the mobili- sation of the local Volunteera. After stating necessity for action he said the General Oficer hid desired him to assure all concern- ed that the military authorities would see that the minimum of inconvenience was caused to the employere. Mr. Clark also dealt with the Association's suggestions regarding a Pharmacy Act, Hall Marking Gold and Silver plate imported into Iudia, and the Bombay dust nuisance. fr. I. D. Jenkins was elected master for the current year.

Calcutta Trades Association. Calcutta, 30th January.AL the anual meaning of the Calcul ta Tdes Association' yesterday evening Mr. Anderson Gibh, of Messre. Bathgate" and Co., wa elected Master in saccassion to Mr. W. J. Bradshaw, the retiring Mastor. He referred to, the pro. greza the Association bad made during the past year. As regards the general position of trade owing to the war, Mr. Brad-baw said: It is particularly gratifying to ba able to record after enquiry smong many of our members that trade as a whole has not been very seriously affected, although for the present it can hardly be exproted to attain the dimensions of the months preceding the war, but there is every reason to believe that the position will steadily improve and that trade will show substantial expansion as scou as more regular steamship sailinga! are restored. We read in the local papers that encouraging Bccounts are coming to hand from the Bombay side of a brighter outlook in those industries in nhich the western cepire of trade and commerce is principally con- cerned, and in our local markets the New Year opened on a horizon on which the cloude tre lifting. The industries of Bengal are being carried on to a greater or lesser extent and the rpinien is held in some quartere that as the corola-j sion of wor there will be a great development of trade when capital can be invested without fear of! hostilities again breaking out for Mr. many long years to come.. W. H. Thelpe, ia, supporting the mction for the adoption of the report and accounts, attacked the Calcutta Electric Corporation for maintaining, as he said, higher ratea for electricity than were found in any other city.

Manchurian Wheat.

We learn that 20,000,000 ponds (or 333,333 tone) f North Man- churian wbent are to be shipped from Vladivostok to France in the course of the next four months." The Minister of Commerce and Indus ry, Petrograd, bae instruct- ed Baron Taube, Harbour Mastor, Vladivostok, to increase by six the number of new berths for ebips in the Harbour, which were originally planned to be six. The Harbour Master is further ordered to have a grain elevator erected at bach berth with the greatest possible despatch. We under Atand that, in this etapendous export of Siberian wheat, the Russian Railway authorities con- cerned are prepared to offer a heavy reduction in the railway freight. Siberia, as may be widely known, is a great wheat granary oapable of patting out an almost Hitherto a unlimited supply.

good deal of it has been exported to Western Russia and, in an inconsiderable quantity; to other parts of Europe. In the Far East only a small quantity finds its way into Manoburia. This exodus of Siberian wheat is consequent upon the abnormal rise of American wheat in price on the European markets, whore the demands for foreign importe have expanded to measure never known in the paat National Review,
