General Managera,

It is announced that a new steamship service will be main- tained regularly between Manila Bad Saigon and Haiphong direct hereafter. The service is establish ed by French company-La Navigation d'Extreme Orient. The concern has purchased two ships for the trade and voyages will be made to Manila alternately from Haiphong and Saigon. The service promises to affect Hong kong trade with the Philippines. The chief exporte from Indo- China to the Philippines are rice and cement, and it is probable that the direct service will enable the Haiphong cement interests to compate more successfully with the Hongkong cement concerns in the Philippine market, Shipments of rice direct from Saigon to Manila and Cebu also will affect Hongkong in that it is likely to result in cutting out Hongkong rico jobbers who now handle rice exports of Saigon 'including very considerable portion of the a large portion transshipped at Hongkong for Mavila.Net York Maritime Register
