Japanese Fishermen on the Fraser River. A

The Times Torontocorrékví pondent states that at a repre Bentative meeting of fishermen held at New Wealminster it was decided to organise for the axi clusion of Japanese fiskermon": from the Fraser River. The re solution adopted declared that Asistios were a deadly menace. to the district bobause they were Blendily driving white and fadian fishermen off the river, and were sapping the financial life, of the Fraser Valley to the extent of a million dollars a year, which wore diverted from loos! channels of: == trado and sent to sa alien coun try. It was declared farther that' unless the steady and insidious invasion of Asiatics was checked quickly, one of the greatest come mercial assets of British Colum bia would pass entirely into the hands of aliens. Hence it was resolved that-In order to preserve the fishing industry of the Fraser River to white and Indian fishermen, the Dominion and Provincial Governments "beta petitioned to enact legislation sa follows:-That no licences be issued to Asiatics to fish above the Fraser River Bridge at New Westminster; that in 1915 and thecceforth the number of licon- cas to be issued to Fraser River fishermen be restricted to a total to be agreed upon by the interest ed canneries and by this asso blation; and that in 1915 and thenceforth licences be issued to. white and Indian fishermen on the Fraser River for one month prior to their issuance to any other persons whatsoever..
