The defendants in the case of alleged conspiracy with intent to defraud the Hongkong and Shang- bai Bank, Remedios and Gutiar rez, were agein remanded by Mr. Wood, at the Police Coort this morning, on the application of Mr. Lewis, of Messrs. Johnson, Stokes and Master, who appeared to prosecute.
Mr. Lewis explained that ho deserved another week's remand ; Mr. Gardiner, one of the solicit ors for the defence, liat appeared that morning, but he did not stay.

THE SHANGHAI EXPLOSION.
Shanghai. Received July 13. An explosion, which occurred in the magazine of the Chinese gunboat Tang Uhi, off Kiangaon Arsenal or Saturday night, demolished the midshipmen's quarters and thirty-five midshipmen, all Cantonese, were killed and n number of the offioors and crew injured.
Although much damaged internally the hall apparently did not suffer. The Tang Obi was ander orders to exil for Canton on Tuesday with a consignment of special bank notes for the Canton note redemption and the relief of the sufferers from the floods.
