Comprehensive plans for pro- viding additional wharfage for the port of Bydney, Australia, have been prepared by the Harbour Trust, which will expend £6,000,000, covering a period of

Since Sailing date the Harbour Trust was created in 1001, it has spent more than £2,000,000 and the port's tonnage has increased enormously. Ia 1001 the number of vessels was 1,884, with an aggregats, not toppage of 2,953,511, in 1913 tho uumber was 9,073 and the ton- nage about 9,000,000. The shipe catering the port are becoming larger in size every year. For the year onded June 30, 1913, 4,797,713 tons of goods. were imported, made up as follows: Deep sen, 1.941,976 tons; interstate, 827,685 tons; State,

have recently had before them a complete return of the shipping: trade of the Thames for the fin- ancial year ending March 31. The result shows a large increase in the maritime movement of the port as compared with the figures for the preceding financial year.
It may be noted that the year" 1013-14 was free from the arious labour difficulties, which distinguished its immediate predecessor, so that a consider- able improvement upon the figures for 1012 13 was to be expeop. It is satisfactory, how ever, to find that the returns for the year just ended indicate not only a complete recovery of trade, but'a substantial advance upon the returns for, 1911-12, which may be regarded as a more normal period.
