Captain Payae, who left on April? by the Tenyo Maru for San Francis 0, carries with him the best wishes of the fleet for a long and happy life in retirement afer his many years of service on the China coast.

There was launched from the Mitsu Bishi Dockyard, Nagasaki, the steamer Suwa Marn which has been built for the European trade of the Nippon Yasen Kaisha. Her principal dimensions are: Length 505ft, breadth 83.6ft., depth 37.6ft. and draft 28.6ft. Her registered tonnage is 11,900 and deadweight capacity 13,500 tons. She will be propelled by sets of triple-expansion engines giving her a speed of 16 knots. The vessel is to be completed in September next and she will leave Japan on her maiden voyage on October 8. he will be fitted with accom- modation for 121 first class, 60 secondolass and 104 steerage passengers.
