FURTHER DETAILS OF A TERRIBLE AFFAIR.

Husband's Strange Premonition of the Deed.

(From Our Own Correspondent:`

Shanghai. Received January 24 The murder of Mrs. Noumeno, wife of a well-known German butcher, makes the eleventh within a period of three months, though this is the first foreigner killed during this wave of crime.

The body was found almost naked, and was torribly mutilated. There were indications that the woman, who was vary strong, had a terrible fight with the murderer, who removed $35,000 worth of valuables.

Mr. Neumann is a contractor to the Navies, and a big horse dealer. He also owns considerable properly. His wife possessed valuable, jewellery. Both were well liked and known for their work in helping destitutes.

The koye of the safe and of the jewellery and cash boxes were under the victim's pillow, and it is believed that Mra. Neamana discovered a mau extracting thơm, that she attempted to prevent him doing so, and that the man then hacked her lend and body with a chopper and dragged her on to the floor finally

The bend was almost severed from the body; and the whole place was ransacked.

It is believed that the murderer escaped through a new building at the rear of the residenes, in the direction of which blood-atained footprints have been traced.

A European has been arrested on suspicion, ne olsa has a houseboy who was sleeping on the premises.

Another clue is provided by the fact that an old ser- vant of the Noumonu's, who had been convicted for theft, was seen to leave Shanghai yesterday morning.:

The strangest feature of the affair is that Mr. Neumann, who is in hospital, received a strong promoni- tion of bis wife's death. During the night he got up and walked on the verandab, and Lo insisted on going home at seven o'clock in the morning, when be discovered that the crime had been enacted.

The sensation caused by the murder equals that of the bombardment of the Settlement during the summer,
