"The Western Mail" (Perth) says: The Western Australia, formerly known as the Mongolia, is a steel twin-screw steamer of 3,987 tons gross and 1,628 tons net register, built at Trieste in 1901 for the Russian Government at a cost of over £100,000, and, lately owned by the East Asiatic Company, from whom she was purchased on behalf of the Western Australian Government, by Sir Newton Moore, for £39,000. Since she has come into the the Western possession of Australian Government she bas been entirely renovated and refit ted, and passenger accommoda tion has been somewhat enlarged and improved. She is fitted with triple expansion engines, with oylinders 24 by 38 by 62 by 35 in, stroke, supplied with steam from five single-ended boilera under Howden's forced draught, and capable of driving/ the vessel to 18 knots. She is fitted with refrigerating mach- ineery, electric light, is steam heated, has a Marconi wireless installation and has boats adequate to accommodate all on board, including a fine motor.
