The Imperial Merchant Service Guild, who have been approached on the point of representation, are officially acquainted of the fact that small departmental Committee has been appointed to consider the measures now taken to protect shipping from the dan- gers caused by floating doreliota and other obstructions to naviga- tion, and whether those mensures require to be supplemented, and if so, in what way.

It is stated that Sir Arolibald Williamson, Bort., M.P,, has con- Benled to not as Chairman of the proposed Committee," upon which various "rópresentatives of the shipping interests will be invited to sit. A Committee has boen formed consisting of some twenty Members of Parliament, with Mr. Basil E. Peto, M.P., as Chairman. This Committee. is the only one that has ever been. formed to further the interests of Captain and Officers in the Houso of Commons, and is known as the Parliamentary Committee of the Imperial Merchant Service Guild, and through this Coinmittée the Guild have lately raised several important 'Questions in
