The Clyde's First Motor Liner, The Jutlandia, the first large oil-engi od vessel built on the Clyde has now been domu

completed) and her builders, Mosara. Barolay, Carle, and Co., of Whiteinch; have conducted a Bories of ex- baustive trials on the Firth of Clyde, which have shown that the installation of propelling ma- chinery is fully capable of attain ing the results anticipated by the owners and builders. The resnol which has been built to the order of the East Asiatic Company, is of 5,300 gross tons, and the machinery consists of Diesel on- gines of the Burmoister and Wain type, driving twin screws by means of eight cylinders on each shaft. On the trials a speed of twolve knots was attained, with the engines running at 135 r.p.m., and developing 2,700 i.h.p. The designs provided for a spoed of 11 knots at 140 r.p.m., so that thero in a substantial margin of power. The fuel consumed work- ed out at the rate of about 10 tons per day of 24 hours con tinuous running, and consistat of oil with a specific gravity of .855, although the engines can be ran on oil with a much higher specific gravity.
