The annual circular issued by Pixloy and Aboll, copies of which have been received in Shanghai, tells of a rémurkable increase in the stock of bat silver and sycoc in Shanghai during the year just „closer. According to this circu- lar there are now in Shanghai 243 lacs of tacle. In syces and 1,690 bars with a, sterling valueHongkong, 8th Feb., 1912.
of about $3,300,000, in addition ́to a stock of nearly 9 million Mexican dollars, At the begin- ning of 1910 the local holdings were 123 lace of tools in sycee and a valho of 0,870 bars, with £2,302,000.
According to these figures, the total value of-silver-bars; sysoo, taole and dollars now in Shanghai is more than £7,000,000, in comu- parison with about half that amount at the beginning of last
year.
It is interesting to note that the stock of silver in Shanghai is larger than that in Loudon, estimated at the close of the year
to amount to £1,000,000.
The annual circulars of all the London bullion houses pay a great deal of attention, to the present political situation in China. In the circular by Samuel Montagn & Co. it is pointed out that the ancient centre of the world's silvor market, India, tends to shift to the east and that it is probable, that with the increased foreign trado of China: mado possible by a popular and liberal government, Chim will become the greatest consumer of silver.
