The Government, it will be seep, gels a very small percentage on the capital invested, whilst the privato shareholders are guaran- teed six per cont. Much less is carried forward this year than last. The authorized capital of the Company is Yen 200,000,000, of which Yen 120,000,000 is sub-| Boribed, whilst shares for Yen 80,000,000 remain unismod. Of the 120 millions subsoribed Yon 102,000,000 are paid up, no less than Yen 100,000,000 of this amount being contributed by the Government.
Electrical Development in Japan, According to investigations made by the Japaness Depart- ment of Communications, the total number of electric work pstablish ments already in operation at the end of September last was 1,016 and their capacity in producing #lectric power 472,205 kilowatts. The total capital of these estab- lishments amountçil to Yen 35,- 170,731.
The Rubber Industry,
merchant writes in the Financial News "When one knows what a good future there is before the rubber industry in the Middle East, and what- splendid results are, even now, being shown by the well-managed | companies which are not over- capitalised, it is rather deplorable that so much prominence should be given to the disastrous: failures that have resulted from the great boom of 1910. All those of us who could discriminată between good and bad companies know porfectly well that a large number of the concerns which were brought out early last year were doomed to failure, and this is being inado evideni in too many cases where pro- motors have been over sanguine (if not un-crupulous), and the public has been led astray by| #pecious promises based on very slénder premises;
Despite all these failures, how- ever, I believe that if the capital of the really sound and properly- managed companies under the British flag is totalled up it will, be found that the percentage of
