Shanghal Market Report, ..
The weekly market report of "Messrs. Ilbert & Co., issued on Doo, 23, contained the following:
Business has proceeded on practically the same lines as last" reported, delivorica being facilitated by an easier money market and the prolongation of the armistice. Here and there a transactions in dyed goods
are reported, but the total ammints to very little indosd and the best indication" of the
real state of the market lies
ཅ་
in the fact that
ご
nuctions
have not yet been rosuined though some small sales of auc tion goode have, we understand, been effected privately. Yarn, both local and imported, has if anything bonofitad more by the "sasior conditions horo than manus factured goods, and clearances have not been at all bad consider- ing the circumstances, though it must be remembered that this is | largely due to conecasious and special facilities granted by im- porters and mill owners to thoir buyers in view of the conditions now prevailing...
The recent meeting of the Chamber of Commerce shows that the Native Order question is now receiving close attention from both foreign' and Chinese importers, and the resolution adopted by a large majority, namely that the ustice be reduc ed to 3 days instond of 5, and that the "Woi Wah stamp be eliminated-gives the Chamber a solid basis for its futuro no- gotiations and appours to meet the case fully, Some form of credit is essential to the trade, and- while a roduction to 3 days' credit means a' corresponding reduction in the volume of trado legitimate business will at least be secure to some extent from a repetition of the lisastors of the past few yours which have been brought about by the I
presont thoroughly unsound system.
. Reports from Szeeluon, which has been in a slate of extreme lawieseness for many montlis past, indicate that some semblance of order is being restored there, and as so much of our trade now de- pends on that province, it is to he hoped that these reporte aro
true.
The ponce negotiations are still only in their initial stage, and es little is reliably known of the proceedings, it is quite impossible as yet to say whether they are 43 all likely to lend to the only con clusion that traders hope for whift- ever their nationality or political sympathies may be. Meanwhile
the armistice has again been ox- tended until the 31st inst. at 8
