Now Straits Steamer. Scott's Shipbuilding and En- gineering Company, Greenock, launched on April 27th a steamer named the "Krian," for the Straits Steamship Company, Singapore. She is 850 tons gross, and 210 feet in length, 35 feet in width, with u dopth of 20 feet moulded. She is designed for coasting service in the Straits Settlement, and to suit tropical

conditions hor decks are of toak, and her arrangement of awnings and ventilation has received spe- cial consideration.

Accommodation is provided for first and second class passengers - and for nativo steerago passengers| while her main deck is fitted with stalls for cattle carrying.

The cargo arrangements are up to date. The Vossel is to be fitted throughout with electric light, and hor equipment includes a motor launch. She will be en- gined by the buildors, with triple expansion engines.
