Canton Riots.

SUMMARY DECAPITATION.

TEN THOUSAND TROOPS IN CANTON.

[From Our Own Correspondent,]

Canton, 14th February.

With reference to the disturbance between the newly-drained troops and the police, the state of affairs in the city of Canton is utili uncertain ai prosent. On the morning of Saturday last, a serious engagement took place between the troops and the men under Admiral Li Chun at Intong or thereatoms off the East

Gatt, lasting for about two hours. Owing to

lack of arms and ammunition the mutineers, though strong is numbers, could not stand long against Li. Chun's men, A score of the disaffected troops were killed, eleven captured, many surrendered, and others fled. Those captured were at once beheaded by order of Admiral-Li. On the night of Saturday Ad miral Li Chun, the Tartar Generals, and all other military officials and soldiers, to the number of over a thousand, maintained a sharp look-out at all the city gates. For the whole night Admiral Li kept vigil. The city gates are closed." Large reinforcements have arrived here from neighbouring places and it is expected ibat order will soon be restored.
