trent 59 per cent. In the one case, and from 86

per cent, in the other. History and geography made 69% and 78% respectively, while dictation was 90% and reading 88%. The standard in arithmetic has been raised considerably, the girls now taking the same syllabus as that of boys' schools. One class unfortunately failed to understand the wording of the problem.set, and so brought its average down to 65, but with this exception the papers were very satisfac- tory. Reading and explanations were very good indeed, showing no trace of the besita- tion in the use of English, observable in former years. The two upper classes sat for an examination in bygiene on the 19th December. The results are not yet at hand.

Special Prices. As in former year Mr. R. E.
