REMARKABLE PAPER READ BY DR. CALMETTE.
Paris, August 8, Dr. Calmette, the head of the Pasteur In stítuto at Lilie, read a remarkable paper before the members of the French Association for the Advancement of Science. His speach was on "The Problem of Vaccination against Tuber. culosis."
What was perhaps most interesting to the lay mind was Dr. Calmatie's, frank recognition of the atter failure of all the boasted serums which were to touder bumanity immune against the most terrible of scouregos. tuberculous serum in existence, which has any will be subject to rant
real curative power."
At the sama lime, Dr. Calmette still inclines to the belief that the problem is not unsol vable. He agrees with Broaardel's dictum that most men are, or have been, tuberculous, and that those who have resisted are almost ren. dered immune. He sıkı bimṣolf if the true treatment of tuberculosis is not precisely to treat and cure the patient at the first attack. To this end a rapid diagnosis is necessary, and must be followed by the immediate dispatch of Steam Launches of Bieel or Wood, Lighters, Steal Buildings and Roofs, Bridge the patient to a "preventorium," or place of isolation, where they may be protected from Work, and mil kinds of Machinary are made on the premises.
