SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

The report for the year god by the superin tendent of the Botanical and Forestry Depart. meat (Mr. S. T. Dann) bas been issued. We make the following excerpts from the contents of the comprehensive blue-book which will prove interesting :-

BOTANIC GARDENS.

The year was marked by the flowering of two treas which formed important additions to the decorative plants of the Gardens. One of these was. Primus. Ungert which flowered pro- fusely, in the middle of January. This tree, which came originally from japan, is deciduous and has pretty drooplog pink flowers which appear before the leaves, The other treo, Pax; tannia Beriunet, also flowers before the leaves appear. The flowers are sweetly scealed, while and mauve in colour and akdut 4 inches long The tree forms a charming picture when infu!! flower. The seeds from which this specimen was raised were obtained by Mr. Murray Scot from Mr. Greiter on the North River and very kladly presented by him to the Botanic Gardens in May, 1995.
