Probably formalin is a thing that he has omitted. to get used to, as it has only been discovered in recent times, but the odds are that he would stand a good deal of it before he surrendered. The danger is in using anything that may kill the stowaway. If a man died of an overdose 'of red peppar, or committed suicide as a result of the torture it would inflict upon him, the rew of the world wou'd get the idea that the -Austrálian is a callous bint

WEIGHT OF GHOSTS.
NEW THEORY, OF LIFE AFTER DEATH.
NO. STRUGGLE FOR LIFE.
Mr. Fournier d'Albe, B.Sc., secretary of the Dublin Society of Physical Research, explained to an audience of spiritualists at the rooms of the Royal Society of British Artists, in Suffolk 'street, Pall Mall, London, on December 3, bls new theory regarding the life of the soul after 'death.
{
He went so far, ds to indicate the kind of life which, in his belief; is led by disembodied souls
and the probable duration of it, supporting bis speculations by scientific arguments.
After commenting upon the fact that "a poor ghost looking in at the window is shot at, per- secuted,depounced, and exercised," Mr. d'Albe gave his reasons for believing that the soul of man is an aggregation of the "psychomeres," or": soul particles, inhabiting the individual cells of the human body.
These psychomeres, "ha said, "are probably
· Opaque in ultra-violet light, and, therefore, may some day be made visible by może powerful optical means than we at present possess. They will then be weighed and measured, Their. weight will probably be found to be about one- thousandth part of the weight of the body."
Afferdeath Mr. d'Alba's " psychomeres" unlte to form the "soul-body," and are from their nature, suited to the environment of the earth atmosphere in which to believes they float. They have consciousness and power of locomo tion, or energy, which, as it must be derived from same source, is probably obtained from the ultra-violet rays of the sun,

·Mr. d'Albe argued that, as the soul-body sub sists on the sun rays, it requires no digestive organs, and has no need to struggle as the The material body does for food.. Having thus lost the incentive to compete for Existence, the soul-body, retains the higher quality of com. petition in mutual service. The soul-body, according to Mr. d'Alba's theory, is, therefore, engaged only in cultivating the higher virtues (99) of ustice, kindness, and sympathy,
