The attendance, during the year averaged *33694, while the number on the roll at present is 430, I must compliment many of our boys ́on, the'effons they make" to come to school every day. There are some patents, however, who are rather careless in insisting on the re gular attend ce of their sons. Boys who are irregular are a hindrance to the general pro- sross of their class. Besides, they cannos by trained in those important habits, which maks the successful student or business mao-pauc-jelor. Euality and perseverance. The conduct of the boys in general is all that could be desired.. To their dealings bith with their teachers and their companious they behave like young gen tlemen, in the respect our boarders deserve special commei datica."."

The weekly reports still continue to be an excellent stimulus to our Boys. Many parents take great interest in them, and sign thêm re- gularly. These, and the monthly examinations give an ample opp ruelty, for toastont apd thorong's work... I beg to remind those parents who are careless about signing the reports that watexpect them to aid in the education of their children ie itaway. Every means should be taken to encourage regular daily work.

THE BANIShment orDERS.

-SUANGHAI COM) ENTS,

The following editorial comments appear in the N. C. D: News of 16th inst. It is cleat that the banishment orders recently propounced by the Hongkong Governmest against certain prominent Chinese in the Colony, who were believed to have been indirectly connected with the riots that arose from the Japanese boycott, have been keenly felt by their co-na- tionals. Hongkong papers to date announce that a petition signed by 300 Chinese merchants has been pressoted to the Government on behalf of two of the exiles, who had already fled from the Colony before the warrants for
