Dr. Koch, of course, understands that such results as he hopes for cannot be attained merely by instruction. Children no more than grown-ups can be relied on to do as well as they know, Healthful babits, rather than saoilary koowledge are what is required, and the overt powering environment of the child is not the school but the family. Nevertheless, for thirty hours a week the child is under control of the teacher and much can be done in that time to ward forming good habits if the, work is begun early and continued through school life.
