· THE SUGGESTED ALLIANCE.
Presumably because other matters are some what slack in the month of August we get all sorts of bares started, some of which, it may bo sald, provide good running. We are scarcely inclined, however, to think that the sport wil be good for the suggestion of an-American- Chinese alliance, with Japan at the bête-noirṛ. The idea, naturally, ridiculed in Tokio, where it is declared to be the invention of busy bodies who seek to sow distrust between Japan and Chion. Relations have not been cordial of late between the two countries, and normally the Chinaman has no great love for bis naigh-Hitachi Maru, for Kobe.
