„The Marina' Department of the Board of Trade has issued the following notice to mai ters and seamen of British ships :-

Under the provisions of Section 12 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1956, Ühinese and other Oriental seamen are prohibited from being engaged on any British ship at 4.port In the United Kingdom, or on the Continent be tween the Elbe and Brest, unless they pories a sufficient knowledge of the English language, or can prove that they are British subjects or Inhabitants of a British protectorate,

In order, however, to assist Oriental seamen, who are at present in the United Kingdom and cannot comply with this requirement, to return to their own country, the Board of Trade will, until Oct. 6 next, be prepared to consider the question of allowing Oriental seamen to be shipped on vessels going to Singapore or places
